Finnish Lapland attracts winter tourists more than northern parts of Sweden and Norway. During winter season November 2023 to April 2024 over 2,3 million nights were spent in hotels and other registered accommodation places in Finnish Lapland. At the same time 1,7 million nights were spent in northern Norway, known as Nordland and Troms and Finnmark region. Swedish Lapland, more precisely Norrbotten region, registered 1,1 million bed nights. All the regions experienced growth compared to previous year.

Nearly every fourth night spent in Finland during winter season (Nov-Apr) is spent in Lapland. For comparability only five percent of nights spent in Sweden are spent in Norrbotten region and 14 percent of nights spent in Norway are spent in northern Norway.

In summertime (May-Oct) 13 percent of nights spent in Norway are spent in northern Norway, whereas eight percent of nights spent in Finland are spent in Lapland. In Sweden, only four percent of all nights are spent in Swedish Lapland.

Out of these northern areas, summer tourism in northern Norway is unbeatable. Northern Norway gathers more tourists in the summertime than Swedish and Finnish Lapland together. In summer season May 2024 to October 2024 over 3,4 million nights were spent in all registered accommodation places in northern Norway. Meanwhile one million nights were registered in Finnish Lapland and 1,7 million in Swedish Lapland.
